Walker Kessler committed to UNC on Sunday night following his first official visit to Chapel Hill.

Kessler, who was perceived to be an Auburn and Duke lean, and was actually scheduled to make an unofficial visit to Auburn this weekend, said he had an “aha” moment on his visit to Chapel Hill and decided to commit.

While this stings for Auburn, it’s not nearly the end of the world for the 2020 recruiting class. After all, Kessler is the ultimate UGA legacy and is choosing to play at Michael Jordan’s alma mater. The fact that Auburn hung around until the very end tells you how good some of the relationships Bruce Pearl has built in the class of 2020 really are.

Some of those relationships could still close in Auburn’s favor, as the Tigers are set to host players like Jalen Green, Sharife Cooper and Greg Brown (three five stars, two of which are top-10 players) in the coming months.

According to Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers, Auburn has as good of a chance as anyone to land Green.

Auburn will host Green this weekend for the Mississippi State football game. Fellow five star guard Cam Thomas was also supposed to visit, but he seems to be rescheduling. I believe this means Auburn will roll out the red carpet for Green and anyone else who visits.

Green and any other visitors will get to see Auburn’s Final Four team honored and a brief presentation of the players receiving their new SEC Championship rings at halftime.

Brown, the other top-10 player, might be more of a long shot, but Auburn will host him for Iron Bowl weekend and maybe, just maybe his time on The Plains will have the same type of impact on Brown as Chapel Hill had on Kessler.

Cooper is still perceived to be a heavy Auburn favorite, but like Kessler proved, anything could happen. He is still Auburn’s top-priority.

Cliff Omoruyi, a top-50 center, visited The Plains for the Kent State game and has received multiple in-home visits from Tiger coaches recently. He seems to be receiving some of the attention Auburn was giving Kessler.

Jaemyn Brakefield, a five star forward according to ESPN, Matthew Murrell, a top-50 guard, and Chris Moore, a borderline top-100 forward, are other prospects that remain uncommitted and high on Auburn’s big board.

Auburn impressed Brakefield when he visited for the Tulane game, and the Tigers seemed to rise up his list considerably, but Brakefield will visit Louisville this weekend.

Pearl and staff might want to speed up the process on a few recruits after what happened with Kessler, but the coaches are doing everything in their power to land a top class and likely won’t jeopardize that by rushing someone.

Not many other updates have surfaced lately, but this looks to be a news-worthy weekend for basketball recruiting, and we’ll keep you up to date on what happens at Power of Dixieland.
